The mission trip this year was amazing. I had a blast. We left on sunday the 6th and returned the 13. We got our own house to stay in so we didnt have to stay at the dorms. We were secluded but the dorm rooms were about a 1 or 2 minute drive from the house. The place we were working at was 20 minutes from the dorm so we drove a lot.Our job was to put tin roofing on a tailer. The lady who owned the trailer was so nice she was nearly blind but still took care of there mentally needy sister. She was such a strong woman. Im glad we got to help her.
We started work on monday. We were using a black sharpie marker but it had worn out. So everyone was searching for another. I took a chance to see if I had brought my sharpie bag and I had. They asked for the darkest one so I gave them my darkest one but i also gave them my metallic silver sharpie because i thought it would work better. The sharpie made it all go smoothly because the darker ones still didnt show up.
We did devotions on tuesday morning. And our example for everyone can give something even if it is small was the silver sharpie. We then got to work. It rained so we couldnt work in the afternoon. The thunder and lightning made it unsafe. Our van went to the house to clean and everyone stayed to wait out the storm. When they got home we found out that it had stopped raining so they did actually get a lot done. later that night Jason did brianna and my hair. It was crazy but kinda cute how he did it. I got a lot of stares at the meeting thing that night but no big deal.
Wednesday was our free day. We went to walmart to do our usual shopping like we do every year and then we were gonna go to the waterpark. It was storming really badly while we were in there so we decided that we would go to the mall instead of the waterpark. Somehow that changed to the movies. We had to see walle or kungfu panda. I didnt want to see either but i saw walle, it was cute but i would not see it again and i wish i would have not wasted my money. once the movies were over it was really sunny, hot and bright perfect for a day at the waterpark, but we couldnt go because we had spent money at the movie. we went home and decided to go swimming at the pool. we played frisbee in the water. It was a lot of fun.
The next day was thursday and devotions had to be held inside because it was storming so badly. we decided that we couldnt do much at the site so a select few would go and tear down a wooden walk way so we could rebuild it friday. I had to go because i hadnt been on the roof yet. It took forever and we got really dirty but we did it. the others planted flowers at the dorms and worked in the shop since it wasnt raining there. we got home and all showered. After dinner I learned a new game from boys. The night before a few of our girls had played basketball at the gym. we all decided to watch so we all went but the gym was closed that night so we had to go back to the house.
Friday we finished the roof. I was on the roof and I got so dirty but it was fun nonetheless. We also rebuild the wooden walkway with fresh wood and put it on supports. I hammered a little and used a circular saw a little bit. Overall the day was fun. A little boy brought his puppy up to us so we could play with him. We left for lunch and came back and played with him when we werent working. The puppy was so cute, if he didnt belong to the boy kevin would have taken him back home to his family. But the boy finally came back after leaving him with us for a few hours and he took him home. We said our goodbyes to Virginia and went back to the house. We took showers and then went to the last night's closing ceremony. I played presidents (a game i learned) at the dorms and then went with the rest of the church to watch the basketball game.
We left early saturday morning. It was sad leaving. I miss it. And had a blast, it is a memory i will never forget. I wish i would have went the 3rd and 4rth year the church went and not only 1,2, and the 5th years. I hope i go next year. I only didnt do one thing that had been bugging me to do for the longest time but its all my fault I chickened out.
god bless, claire |
